The Jam Sessions – Noida. RECAP

The basketball revolution in India has officially begun!

On Sunday March 1st, the dynamic New York-based organization, Hoops India, hosted ‘The Jam Sessions’, bringing a never-before-seen level of extravagance, energy, and excitement to the sport in India.

The outdoor basketball court at the spectacular Club 15A in Noida was transformed into an incredible stage. Over 12 cameras, operated by Oliver Productions, were capturing footage from devices like a large robotic crane and a moving 36-ft ground track. Nationally acclaimed photographer Aditya Kapoor was the official clicker for the event.

There was a special feeling in the air throughout the day. One of India’s top DJs, DJ MoCity, kept the adrenaline pumping all day and night; playing non-stop Hip Hop music, helping players and fans reach new levels of enthusiasm.

Highlights of the day included a star-studded, 8-team, 3-on-3 streetball tournament, which was won by the local team from Delhi University. The DU team, starring Gurvinder Singh, Vikram Balli, Praveen Dovan, and Raul Pathak, went undefeated, and beat Lucknow in the Championship.

The Slam Dunk competition was another amazing display of individual creativity and sheer athleticism. The winner, Aditya Biswas, has become a local legend and fan favorite. He was 1 of 2 Indian-born players hand-picked by the NBA to travel internationally for an NBA-sponsored camp last year. Just last month, he won a slam dunk contest by jumping over his motorbike to complete a dunk, but this time Biswas added a new creative element by wearing his bike helmet and dunking. He then caused the entire place to erupt when he jumped over 3 seated judges and successfully dunked the ball, and then followed it by doing another breathtaking reverse slam.

The final event of the day was a full-court, 5-on-5 All-Star game that featured the top players of the day playing together in a fun game that included incredible alley-oops, no-look passes, crossovers, blocks, and more slam dunks! The day’s undisputed MVP was standout Vipin Dhaiya.

The full-day 8-hour affair was executed wonderfully by the organization, and was officially sponsored by Nike and E-Source. It was covered extensively by CNN, Aaj Tak, and many others. MTV was also on-site for hours, filming footage of the atmosphere, and speaking with organizers, fans, and players. Seen in attendance were the Honorable Ranjit Das, as well as supermodel Diva Starr and national urban artist Shaleen from Mind Force Gathering.

There’s a new reason to get excited about basketball in India. The next stop for Hoops India will be Mumbai, as they passionately continue their movement to promote basketball through these types of extravagant showcases and related multimedia projects.
