Hoops India, Nike, and Children’s Hope India team up to start a Basketball Program and Children’s Hope Prayas in West Delhi

March 2009 – Delhi, India

Hoops India Inc, Nike, and Children’s Hope India have teamed up to introduce the first basketball program at the Kathputli Colony in west Delhi. The area is essentially a cluster of slums in Pandav Nagar. The Children’s Hope India Prayas program serves over 600 young children per day, providing vocational training, medical check-ups, educational training, computer facilities, and much more.

With the help of Hoops India and Nike, the students will now begin learning the basics of basketball. Since the sport is new to most people in India, Hoops India will also be providing tutorial videos and coaches to work with the program’s sports director and children.

“The whole team of Children’s Hope Prayas is excited about this new sports program, and very grateful to Hoops India for helping us to get started in basketball activities” said Akhilesh Sharma, director of Children’s Hope Prayas.

In the next 1 year, Hoops India intends to help the school form a basketball team, get uniforms made for the kids, and even help bring the children to senior level matches and coordinate junior matches in which they can travel to compete with other schools and organizations in regional and national basketball tournaments.

“While we are showcasing Indian basketball talent through our various multimedia projects and extravagant events in the metros, we are also simultaneously introducing and promoting the sport at the grass roots level to young children who are living in the villages and outskirts of India,” said Neel Pahlajani, founder of Hoops India.

Hoops India Inc. is a NY-based company promoting basketball in India, and showcasing the talent and excitement of local players and fans through innovative forms of multimedia. Currently Hoops India is touring India, hosting basketball extravaganzas, and capturing footage for upcoming media and pop culture projects. The next stop is Mumbai on April 19, 2009.
